COMMENTS: What is the best virus software? Answer: This is a good question but there is no way to answer this with a 100% degree of accuracy. I’ve taken in quite a few PC’s in the last month. I have found a few of them with up to date virus software but they still had serious virus issues. Here are a few of this months results:
*Trend Micro – This month, I’ve had 3 PC’s with bad viruses and up-to-date definitions. You decide where to rank this product.
*Norton 360 seems to work ok but it slams the CPU and has made at least one of the PC’s practically unusable. Very, very slow.
*Avira – I’ve had one this month with Avira. It was just out of the subscription period and had a number of virus issues.
*Prevx – I use this for my personal and work systems. This one has worked flawlessly for me and I really enjoy the feature that emails me when it finds a virus.
*WebRoot – This company owns Prevx now. This looks and works like Prevx and I love the speed for scanning. It does not seem to interfere with other applications and does not slow down the PC. The price is a little higher than I like. I suggest this product to customers, but they have yet to purchase it due to the price.
I’m going to get one of my test PC’s and infect it with a variety of viruses to see which products find it and report it as well as clean it. Look for the results sometime soon.
